Lot Details
Cat. Note/Condition/Ref. Very Good. "Cf: Barbara Harrisson, Swatow in Het Princessehof: the analysis of a museum collection of Chinese trade wares from Indonesia (Leeuwarden: Gemeentelijk Museum het Princessehof, 1979), no. 23 (Keramiek Museum Princessehof collection GAM 916). The Princessehof example is painted with clusters of the character 'ta' (great) rather than the imitation Arabic calligraphy on this piece. Similar jars have been found in the Nan'ao One shipwreck (c.1620) in Guangdong, the Binh Thuan shipwreck (c.1608) in Vietnam and the Batam shipwreck (early 17thC) in Indonesia. See: Christie's Australia, The Binh Thuan shipwreck, 1-3 March 2004."
